Linux Downloads
People are always asking me " where can I get Linux " or "what is Linux "
Linux is a free Unix-type operating system originally created by Linus Torvalds with the assistance of developers around the world. Developed under the GNU General Public License, the source code for Linux is freely available to everyone. Because Linux is open sourced you can download it for free and don't have to worry about piracy issues . Linux is a lot more stable then windows , if your sick of the blue screen of death , give Linux a try , you never know you may like it .
I have attempted to have direct downloads of easy to install distributions of Linux , these are mainly aimed at the beginner and all of these distributions , when installed , wont need you to partition your hard drive . These Linux distributions actually run with windows on the same hard drive , they run on top of dos , so you wont loose your windows and if you don't like Linux then you can easily just delete it and you will still have windows , and yes you can still use windows and Linux together on the same hard drive .
Please note : these are whole operating systems and are huge files , we suggest you use a file downloading program such as getright ( even though it has spy ware ) or gozilla , these will allow you to resume downloading from where you left off if you get disconnected from the net .
Distributions
Winlinux : This is a full featured distribution of Linux that is probably the easiest to install , it will run on a 486 with 16 mbs of ram but 32 mbs of ram or higher would probably make it run a lot smoother . This version comes with a lot of cool applications like gimp and a heap of games . It runs the k desktop environment which is slightly similar to windows and shouldn't be hard for a beginner to quickly master. Installs with a window wizard installation like most windows apps e.g. ICQ
Armed Linux : A stable, optimized Linux operating system that installs under Microsoft Windows 95 or 98? They said it couldn't be done... now here it is. Many new features and updates.
Zipslack : This is a small Linux that will run from a zip drive or it will run on top of dos with out the need for partitioning your hard drive , it doesn't have a graphical interface like the other linux's on this page but has a Norton commander clone called midnight commander to make it easy to navigate files . It will run any Linux programs etc and is suitable as a portable version of Linux that security professionals can use when they do not have access to there own machine .
